PMPA ALUMINUM TARIFF PRESS RELEASE

Friday August 07, 2020

The White House announced reinstatement of tariffs on aluminum yesterday. The Tariffs would go into effect August 16, 2020.

Presidential proclamation: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-adjusting-imports-aluminum-united-states-080620/

This goes against the actual data, which shows that aluminum imports are actually down: https://www.aluminum.org/news/latest-us-data-primary-aluminum-imports-canada-decline-june

Even the US Aluminum Association, arguably the ones most likely to gain from tariff protection, is opposed to the tariff: https://www.aluminum.org/news/reinstating-section-232-aluminum-tariffs-wrong-approach-us-industry

Canada has already pledged retaliation:

PMPA BUSINESS TRENDS JUNE 2020

Wednesday July 29, 2020

PMPA Business Trends Sales  Index for June 2020 recovers to 112, up 33% over April 2020 Calendar year low!

“This month’s 112 value is 37 points or 49.33% higher than the 2009 Calendar year average of 75 during the Great Recession.  We’re doing alright!”

All forward-looking sentiment indicators for Sales, Lead Times, Employment and Profitability were also positive for the second consecutive month

Our respondents’ data showed that we outperformed the FED’s IP and Manufacturing indicators by a large margin.

We are in a far better place this time around then we were during the Great Recession. (Our Shops’s Sales are currently 49% higher than the Great Recession low)

These difficult times may just be the beginning of the best thing that has happened in manufacturing, as foreign supply chains continue to prove unreliable, and our shops and essential workers step in to fill the need for critical components.

PMPA’S 2020 ANNUAL MEETING IS ON!

Monday July 20, 2020

Dear fellow members,

I hope everyone is finding some time to enjoy this summer despite these ever-evolving difficult times. During such times, it is more important than ever for us to come together as an association and explore ways to overcome the challenges presented by the pandemic.  With that said, it is my honor to invite you to the PMPA 2020 Annual Meeting.

We have all experienced new, unforeseen challenges in our workplaces, at home, and in our personal lives. Our goal for this summit is to create a space for all of us to learn from our different experiences and discuss what has worked, and what hasn’t.  As you know, the PMPA is a haven for these conversations and as difficult as this time has been, we look forward to presenting a group of speakers that will help each of us overcome the wide range of challenges we are facing.  Throughout the event, we will have the opportunity to reflect on the past year and prepare for the new opportunities to come.

I am confident that this meeting, in particular, will be most rewarding since we have so much to gain, as corporations are re-evaluating their global supply chains at every level; thereby by creating immense opportunity for our industry. The speakers we are inviting will be addressing these topics and providing resources and tangible takeaways to help us make the most of the opportunities, while protecting us and our workforce.

Join us October 22-25 at the Big Cedar Lodge in the Ozark Mountains of southern Missouri as we ReFocus, ReGroup….and ReConnect!  Hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

Victor DaCruz
